Coach Ivan Melford Curnutte of Greensburg, Kentucky and also of Tucson, Arizona, son of the late Martin Curnutte and Oma Lee Dykes Curnutte, was born on Wednesday, June 19, 1935 in Ashland, Kentucky and departed this life on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at the Northwest Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona. He was 85 years, 7 months, and 15 days of age.
He had made a profession of the Catholic faith, and was a former teacher, vice-principal, athletic director, and football coach for the Green County School System. He started the Green County football program in 1962. He was also a member of the United States Army Reserve from 1954 until 1962, the American Legion in Arizona, and the K-Club. He was a volleyball official, volunteer for the University of Arizona track & field, and an Olympic qualified official.
Survived by his wife of 64 years, Della Eileen Mather Curnutte of Greensburg, having united in marriage on October 2, 1956 in Lexington, Kentucky.
Other survivors include a son: Michael Dean “Alfie” Curnutte of Greensburg; three grandchildren: Cy David Curnutte, Rachael Eileen Curnutte both of Lexington, and Lauren Michelle Curnutte of Florida; a great-grandson: Kane McKinney of Florida; a sister: Camilla Joe Tussey of Ashland; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Curnutte was also preceded in death by a son: Anthony Ellis “Tony” Curnutte in 2007; and a brother: Delmas Curnutte.
The funeral services for Coach Ivan Curnutte will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Central Time, Friday, February 12, 2021 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Green County Memory Gardens. Bro. Fellow Wilson, Jerry Cowherd and Freddy Tate officiating.
A walk-through only visitation is requested from 3 P.M. until 8 P.M., Central Time, Thursday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7 A.M., Friday until time of the funeral service.
The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Green County Athletic Program, which can be made at the funeral home.
